ART STATEMENT

My art is an extension of myself and I enjoy the entire process of creating something that is unique that captures the moment. Consistently when I start on a new project, I challenge myself to create artwork that is a little different than what I created last time. It is a growing and learning process and I continue creating work for myself and my new and old friends. It is life long process and fun to develop new ideas and images.

I get my inspiration from life and the surroundings that we live in, such as landscapes, still life’s and life studies. When I travel, I carry a backpack filled with art materials. When I see a picture that catches my eye I will sit down and draw a sketch, paint a watercolor or set up my French easel and work on an acrylic/oil painting. When I return to the studio I may add some finishing touches or leave it as is. I study artists from the past and present and they give me inspiration and techniques to try in my work. We all learn from others and it is great to be involved in such a creative environment.

I enjoy using a variety of mediums for creating my work. For example, I print/etch using zinc or copper plates, I draw using pencils 8B to 8H, use charcoal, soft pastels and I paint with watercolors, quache, acrylics and oil paints. Many times I will mix the above to get the desired affect that I am looking for. I prepare my own canvas by using stretcher bars and canvas and then treat with a professional grade Gesso as a foundation. After creating my artwork, I do all the matting and framing at my studio. I use the highest grades materials that are available in the industry because they have the best pigment and consistency.

Thank you for taking the time to enjoy my artwork and I look forward to meeting with you to talk about art.
